Ordered two tacos to try out, the restaurant itself is in need of cleaning, the tacos where $5 and change each which is high upfront but the tacos are large not the street style size. The proteins where both heavily seasoned not to my style I couldn't really enjoy the overall chicken and beef flavor it was very intrusive the salsas I did try where all good and a decent level of spice, not the best not the worst.
Not related to Trejos Tacos. This is so far the best mexican food restaurant in Huntington Beach. When I eat here it reminds me of living across the border. In all the best ways. Don't be afraid to give this excellent eatery a shot. If nothing else come in and grab a chorizo or steak and egg breakfast burrito or potato taco.
Trejo's Tacos offers an amazing casual dining experience with flavorful tacos and the best Jamaica I've ever had. The outdoor seating allowed me to enjoy my meal with a cool breeze, making the experience even more enjoyable. The tacos were packed with flavor, and each bite was a delight(non greasy healthy). The highlight of the meal was definitely the homemade salsa on the side, which was authentically spicy and added the perfect kick to the tacos. Today I just tried a new salsa they made which is out of this world amazing. Overall, Trejo's Tacos is a fantastic spot for a casual and delicious meal. Highly recommended for anyone looking to enjoy authentic and flavorful Mexican food. Today I tried the street tacos that are only $2 each.
I’ll start by saying most of their food is fine. Not great, not terrible, basically the culinary version of “it’ll do.” The woman at the register was nice, so points there. I’m a taco guy through and through, and I tend to go for the more adventurous stuff. Lengua is usually a top pick for me, so this isn’t my first rodeo ( or my first cow tongue) and I feel reasonably qualified to share my assessment. (And to do a good deed to protect he rest of society) With that said, let me save you some trouble: do not order the lengua tacos. The meat I got was clearly spoiled. And to make matters worse, whoever prepared it skipped the very important step of removing the thick outer tongue skin. -Which has roughly the chewability of a work boot. So instead of a flavorful lengua taco, I got a surprise texture experience, and the taste of death ,that I would not recommend to anyone with functioning taste buds. The asada tacos were fine. Perfectly acceptable. The kind of safe tacos you eat while trying to forget the lengua tacos ever happened. I really hope they’re not recycling meat that’s been living under heat lamps since the Obama administration. I might give them another shot someday, but for the love of tacos everywhere, please put a little more care into prep — especially the lengua.
I stopped by this morning and ordered a steak and egg burrito. When I got home the food was still warm, which I appreciated. However, halfway through the burrito I realized I hadn’t had a single bite of steak. By the time I was about three-quarters finished, I opened it up thinking maybe all the steak was on one side, but there was none at all. This unfortunately isn’t the first time this has happened here. The food itself is great, but getting the order correct and making sure customers receive what they paid for needs a bit more attention.
