When choosing an airport to fly into, I decided to fly into Long Beach International Airport. We landed and pulled onto the outdoor gate on the tarmac. Once down on the tarmac we headed into the airport to pick up our luggage. LGB airport is a moderately sized airport and was very easy to navigate. We headed to baggage claim and waited a few minutes, our luggage arrived quickly. After all of our luggage was collected, we headed to the Uber/Lyft area. Which was very easy to find. There were a bunch of Ubers, Lyft ride services and taxis out there ready to take people to their destination. I highly recommend flying into Long Beach airport
Little, small, easy, TSA moves quickly. Had to take my shoes off though for the scanner machine which I thought was strange. I don't believe it was random. Not many choices to eat and they are crowded with people wanting food. Rental drop-off was easy and simple. We walked outside to board the plane.
LGB is a great option for flying as an alternative to supercrowded, LAX or SNA. The security lines are usually fairly short and usually doesn't feel very crowded. The only major drawback is that the airport requires you to walk out onto the tarmac to board the plane, which might be an issue if the weather is really bad here in Long Beach. The weather is generally pretty good so chances are it will be fine. When returning to Long Beach, baggage return area is outside. LGB also has a good sized parking structure for those that need to leave their car at the airport.
The Long Beach Airport is the most peaceful, clean, and efficient airport in the entire state of California. I've traveled to 19 countries and more than half of the United States, and this airport sticks out for all of the right reasons. It's the most convenient way to fly into Southern California, it's not as busy, so the restrooms and restaurants are all nice and clean. The security line is incredibly efficient, and the atmosphere in the waiting area has both indoor and outdoor accommodations. If I was ever stranded at an airport, I would hope for LGB!
Easy to get in and out of. Very unique single floor airport. Ramps and stairs to board the airplane, indoor/outdoor baggage claim and waiting area.
