Stayed at Hampton Inn which shares the same parking lot. So after a day at Disney we sauntered over to Buca for drinks but stayed for dinner(s). Everyone we encountered was so friendly and outgoing, what a great atmosphere. The vibe is definitely old school Italian with so many photos and writings on the walls. Such a fun spot. Foodwise we ordered lots. Standouts were the fried mozzarella cheese, serious cheese pull. Chopped antipasto salad was dressed just barely enough. House Chianti was DOCG and super delicious! The meh... Lasagna was humongous and delicious but also crumbly. Chicken saltimbocca was dry af, unfortunately. They also got rid of mashed potatoes as a side. They no longer bring bread automatically, you have to ask for it or order garlic bread. (Remember the olive oil and vinegar dip?!) They don't bring out pizza oil anymore either. Guess those days are long gone. (I used to eat here all the time year and years ago, much has changed in my absence.) All in we had a blast and came back a second time without our friends. We sat in the bar so we were able to order off of the lunch menu which was cool, think regular entrées. Glad we came here; can't wait to go back for cheese and wine!
This is a cool place for large parties but the food is just okay, needs some more flavor (except the stuffed mushrooms and mozzarella garlic bread they are fire!) and I feel it is over priced. $40 for a bowl of spaghetti and meatballs that has no flavor is excessive. Tonight's service was not the best our server forgot a drink and was hard to track down for some water and when my son asked the bartender for some water he was told to ask our server instead of helping him out. (We would have asked our server if we could find him). The cocktails we ordered didn't have much if any alcohol in them and our dessert "tiramisu" was dry.
Buca di Beppo is known for family style dining and while they serve large portions meant to be shared, this style might not be for everyone. The simple Italian menu items ultimately look good, but many appetizers are frozen and fried. The food presentation looks and tastes ok, but I do believe for the price you pay for Small or Large portions... it should be unlimited. The following is what $179 for three people get you. We had the trio of appetizers, bottle of house wine, pasta and one entree. Not sure if this was just Anaheim (Disneyland area) pricing but that is just crazy. Surely the pricing seems to be a bargain but is deceptive as the three person portions aren't of highest ingredients comparative to the price. $35 for a bowl of pasta, $46 for salmon and $41 for appetizers and while it does "feed" three people, the quality was sub par. Three cuts of salmon, a semi-sauced Alfredo and enough fried calamari and shrimp left overs for the week. The real treat was the service and wait staff being tremendously helpful and welcoming. Unfortunately for families with budgets and looking for quality over quantity, I recommend to look for other restaurants before deciding on Buca do Beppo and their high $55 pp price.
We went for my birthday. Service was a little slow compared to the service other tables received. Not sure if because we just ordered one dish after traveling all day, we weren't very hungry and everything being family size it didnt make sense to order a lot. We had to ask for a to go box a couple of times. They did sing Bucca's Happy Birthday song, which was sweet. Though, bringing out a pitifully tiny scoop of vanilla ice cream out to celebrate. Definitely a destination for larger parties to be able to try more dishes. The chicken carbonera we had was excellent and saved the night! We also ordered cannoli to go to have back at our hotel.
